I don’t know if you moved the camera to follow the action or if you “Photoshopped” the background to blur it but I love the focus it puts on the subject and the sense of movement it creates. You can tell that it’s dancing, not posing.
Paintshop Pro is my image manipulation programme of choice but I’m really a complete novice in this sort of thing. It is fascinating to hear how people achieve the effects they do. Thanks for the information.

Thank you! It's photoshopped. Extracted the main figure, and then used a motion blur of about 17 pixels at an angle down towards the right.
Used a gentler blur on the second picture, but a greater degree of desaturation .
