This was a curiosity. Apparently, it's a replica of the Lee Richard Annular Biplane, and it was used in Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines ("flown" by Tony Hancock).

(Top) Supermarine Swift

(Middle) One of my favourite aircraft - the Avro Shackelton (MR3). Most of the flying ones I remember were AEW MR2s.

(Bottom) Another shot of the Vulcan, more clearly showing the Blue Steel missile.

The one thing it did do at Newark was rain. Brilliant sunshine, then sheets of rain. Virtually no middle ground. There were enough shelter spots that this didn't stop photography completely. And the bat-wings of the Vulcan proved useful for some.

Ignorance. I thought the Canberra was a B2, but it turns out to be a PR.7 (WH791). Like the Vulcan, I love the way the Canberras in rain just stand there saying to the world "You think this will stop us? Pah!" Beautiful aircraft. Hoping to see one flying at Lydd (Kent) in a couple of weeks time.

This was a little gem of a Museum. I wasn't expecting much, but there were loads of interesting exhibits, set out nicely so that they could be photographed. The collection does, imho, rival that of Duxford.

It was possible to get really up close and personal with the Vulcan - it's nice when they trust you that way. She was displayed with a bomb-load, refuelling pack and Blue Steel missile, main and ecm hatches open. Great to see.

The Canberra was one of a number at Newark. I loved the "Playboy" black scheme, and hope they keep it.

Candid Photography: My Rules

Bored dog. (c)2006 Jon Pumpkin

Most of my photos are candid photos. The rules followed here are:

* Photographs are only taken in and of public places.
* Photographs will repect their subjects, not degrade them, humiliate them, or laugh at them.
* No nudes. I've nowt against nude photographs, but wouldn't take such pictures without explicit prior consent
* No interference. If photographing is stopping people from continuing to do or enjoying what they're doing, we stop

Where possible, I get prior or post-hoc consent.

Why Emily's Window?

Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss, Old fat furry cat-puss, Wake up, and look at this thing that I bring, Wake up, be bright, be golden and light, Bagpuss, oh hear what I sing.

Some of the opening words from an enchanting BBC children's programme called Bagpuss. The eponymous character was a stuffed cat owned by a young lady called Emily. The child would seek out lost things, and bring them to Bagpuss.

So, Emily's window. The place where Bagpuss lives, where found objects can be displayed, and stories told.
