The title is taken from a line in the original film of The Wicker Man. Policeman Howie asks how a mother can give up her daughter in a pagan rite, and this is her reply. Even though Howie does become a sacrifice, neither he (nor they, imho) understand its true nature, in that he is the unwilling victim of a rite in which he has no belief or appreciation. I wanted this picture to be ambiguous - what is about to be done with the knife? Like most of the doll pictures, I like the subversion, and hope that you will be able to look on it with a sense of fun. Equally, though, as with the other pictures, I did want to imbue the images with a sense of affection, and with a serious edge.
