Alice Primavesi
(c)2007 Jon Pumpkin
Not the same one as on QQR. This is after Klimt's portrait of Mada Primavesi, although I wanted a picture that was kinder to the child. Alice knew the picture and what we were trying to create. As in the Klimt portrait, the floor is scattered with objects, but each does have a significance. Some, such as the book "The Invention of Childhood", are pretty obvious. Others, such as the bible being open at the tale of Jairus's daughter, will always be obscure. Some are specific references to the original picture, whilst others are to the contemporary setting (the CDs, for example). Some are allusions specifically to childhood, others to the transition from child to adult, and the adult role. There's other stuff as well. Have fun. Alice was asked if there was anything she wanted removed - she said there wasn't.
My thanks to Alice and her Mum, Mandy, for helping to create this picture.
