hi, jon pumpkin!

really nice portrait here!

I was wondering how you got from colour to b&w - assuming you shoot always in colour.

This is something I've only recently been taught, sorry if I'm teaching sucking eggs. Truth is, it's so new to me that this is literally the first time I've tried it out. I'm noticing the strong green of the ball.

Do you use color channel separation and throw away the channels you don't want? If you pick RGB - and pick the Green channel, you get a better ball tone.

If you pick CMYK, choose the Cyan image - it's in negative. Positive it, and you get a striking black ball! the girl's skin tone improves, though the image looks slightly grainy but in a nice way.

okay, combine the channels Cyan and Green only - another negative. Positive it and reduce the saturation to zero.

I love it! Of course, you can play around with channel combos to suit your own taste.
